A string of cool nights last week briefly tempered the great hickory shad bite but as it has warmed up the last couple days so has the bite. With low flows hickory shad have been spread out throughout the cove and up to Chain Bridge. It looks like a fresh school of American shad is finally showing up after at least 10 days with very few reported catches. The warm weather the next few days should trigger fresh schools of Americans to come upriver but at the same time will likely send schools of hickory shad out of the system. Schoolie stripers have finally started to become more active of the last couple days. Catches of white perch are being reported as well.
